San Marcos’ bustling economy great real estate market, and business-friendly environment have been noticed by homebuyers and businesses alike, who continue to move into the area. Now the city has been recognized for this combination of xx factors. WalletHub named San Marcos No. 13 on its list of fastest-growing economies in the nation.


In order to identify the American cities that have grown the most rapidly in socioeconomic terms, WalletHub scored 515 cities of varying sizes based on two key dimensions, “Socio-Demographic Landscape” and “Jobs & Economic Environment,” they said.

From there, they ranked 10 relevant metrics, with “data spanning 2008 to 2014…and then calculated the weighted sum of the scores and used the overall score to rank the cities. Metrics included:

  • Population Growth

  • Median Household Income Growth

  • Unemployment Rate Decrease

  • Job Growth

  • Growth in the Number of Businesses

  • Growth of Median House Prices

The WalletHub ranking is the latest in a long line of accolades and important growth trends for San Marcos. San Marcos is the fastest-growing city in the nation and located in one of the country’s fastest-growing counties. Neighboring New Braunfels is No. 13 in national growth.

These two cities are at the geographic center of the I35 Corridor, considered one of the most dynamic areas in the country with projections for continued growth. HEB is bringing the first HEB Plus to New Braunfels’ northeast side, while Amazon is building a new $14 million, 855,000-square-foot facility in San Marcos.
