Living in the Hill Country means having an abundance of great things to do and amazing places to visit. If you’re looking for some family fun—or perhaps some fun for just the two—read below. We’ve got a roundup of top attractions to see in the Hill Country.
1. The Original Schlitterbahn
It’s been voted the best waterpark in the nation for many years and remains a favorite spot for those who live in the Hill Country and those who come to visit. Located in the heart of New Braunfels, Schlitterbahn is filled with fun rides, tube chutes, a lazy river, a beachfront, and shaded spots to take it all in.
2. Gruene Hall
The oldest continually running dance hall in Texas is right around the corner. Gruene Hall is a spot you don’t want to miss, for great live music, open air dancing, weekly swing dancing lessons, and the famous Gospel Brunch. While in the Gruene Historic District, you’ll want to spend some time checking out the charming shops and restaurants.
If you’re planning a trip to Fredericksburg, don’t miss this beautiful hunk of pink granite, and, especially, the view from the top. While you’re in the area, save some time to browse the quaint antique stores and sample some wine from some of Fredericksburg’s great wineries.
4. San Marcos Premium Outlets
Some of the best shopping in the world is right here—TV’s The View said so! Stores include Cole Haan, Fendi, Gucci, Guess, J. Crew, Juicy Couture, Michael Kors, Tory Burch, True Religion, U.S. Polo Association, Tommy Bahama and Saks Fifth Avenue Off 5th.
This Boerne hotspot is a National Natural Landmark that brings people out to explore a living cavern. While you’re in Boerne, you’ll also want to hang out on the Hauptstrasse (Main Street), where quaint shops, art galleries, and European architecture converge.
6. Canyon Lake
People come from all over Texas for some of the best fishing in the Hill Country and a variety of water sports. You might find largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, Guadalupe bass, white and striped bass, and catfish. Plus, you can hike, bike, and even go horseback riding along the scenic lake trails.
On the fourth Saturday of every month, people head to Kerrville to browse the original, handmade wares, arts and crafts, and unique gifts. If you’re looking for a great place to have lunch, head over to Classics Burgers and “Moore,” Texas Monthly’s #40 burger in Texas.
8. Guadalupe and Comal Rivers
Even if you’re not looking to go tubing with the family, these rivers offer a host of things to do while enjoying nature. Go kayaking, canoeing, swimming, or fishing, or pick a scenic spot and enjoy a picnic.
9. The new HEB
The new HEB Plus in New Braunfels isn’t just another supermarket.
