You know the holiday season is getting underway in San Marcos when it’s time for the annual Wine & Wassail Walk . Now in it’s third year, this favorite San Marcos event will take place on Friday, Nov. 13, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., in the city’s historic downtown.
Wassail is a hot, mulled cider, and also means: to drink “alcohol and enjoy oneself with others in a noisy, lively way.” That pretty much encapsulates the joyous nature of this event. The 2015 Wine and Wassail Walk will feature a progressive tour of downtown’s shops and businesses, with an array of different wines paired with d’oeuvres and live entertainment along the way.
For those that live in San Marcos and New Braunfels, this is a great way to explore downtown, learn more about this retail haven and the plans underway to create more pedestrian friendly, walkable areas, and spend time among friends and neighbors. San Marcos just received a prestigious award from the American Planning Association (APA) for “The city’s Sidewalk Cafés, Parklets and Similar Special Uses of Public Right-of-Way Ordinance and Pilot program,” that is focused on creating “a pedestrian-oriented environment downtown.”
Living in San Marcos
San Marcos is both the fastest-growing city in the nation and also one of the most relaxed small cities in America—a unique combination of factors today’s homebuyers appreciate. Hill Country scenery and an abundance of dining, shopping, entertainment, cultural, and recreational opportunities add to the allure. So do the exceptional location on the I35 Corridor between Austin and San Antonio and a hot job market that’s about to get even hotter with a new Amazon facility and an HEB Plus in New Braunfels coming soon.
The popularity of the area has impacted available homes in the area; New housing data reported by the New Braunfels Herald-Zeitung. shows an inventory crunch for both San Marcos and New Braunfels.
