Home Blog Halloween in the Hill Country offers numerous options for family-friendly fun

Halloween is one of kids’ favorite days of the year, and, when you live in the Hill Country, you get to stretch the celebration out a few days (or more!). Mark your calendar for these festive Halloween events throughout the area.

Downtown San Marcos Trick or Treat
Saturday, October 28, noon to 3pm
Downtown San Marcos

The third annual Downtown San Marcos Trick or Treat offers all kinds of Halloween fun for kids. Collect treats from local shops, enjoy kid Karaoke at Stonewall Warehouse, craft at Crafthousetx, do an excavation dig Louie's Oyster House & Beer Garden, bounce in the Bounce Castle at Sean Patrick's Irish Pub N' Texas Grub, get your face painted at The Porch, and more!

Pumpkin Painting Party for Munchkins
Saturday, October 28, 3–5pm
Homespun Kitchen and Bar, Dripping Springs

Planning to be in Dripping Springs on Saturday, October 28? This popular annual event includes pumpkin painting, a kid’s meal, face painting, and more.

Llano River Pumpkin Float
Saturday, October 28, 4pm–9pm
Badu Park in Llano

This event was so much fun last year in its inaugural run that it’s back for more! You don’t want to miss the “pumpkins glowing, floating and reflecting light as soon as it gets dark.” Bring an already-carved pumpkin along with a candle or light by 6pm to participate. There will also be pumpkin carving demonstrations, pumpkin stacking, sidewalk chalk, and games and activities.

The Haunted Show at Cave Without a Name
Saturday, October 28, 7–10pm

This unique Halloween event offers “a wonderfully eerie evening in the Cave Throne Room. Just before Halloween, the cave will be haunted by the expert weaving of tale and song—both classical and jazz—such as Moonlight Sonata (played in total darkness), Theme from Young Frankenstein, A Nightmare before Christmas, Danse Macabre and similar songs plus the haunting melodies from Rahim Quazi’s CD, Ghost Hunting, which was on the ballot for a Grammy Award. Enjoy a family-friendly evening loaded with fun and surprises. Costumes welcome.”

Dia De Los Muertos Festival
October 28, 5–10pm
Downtown New Braunfels

This second annual event features local food, drinks, arts & crafts, vendor booths, shopping, and live entertainment spanning Mariachi, Folklorico dancers, and Tejano stars Sunny Sauceda and Crystal Garza.

Family Fright Night
Tuesday, October 31, 5:30–10pm
Kerrville Schreiner Park, Bandera

Head to Kerrville for this fun family event on Halloween. Activities will include “trick or treating at the Riverfront Mini-Cabins, games, free popcorn & lemonade, costume contest and a ‘Movie in the Park.’”
