Fall in the Hill Country is one of the most beautiful times of year, and with tons of activities taking place throughout the season, you’ll have an abundance of opportunities to explore. Get those calendars out—you’ll definitely want to set aside some time for these great Hill Country events.


NBC Stair Climb & Maze Challenge
Saturday, Nov. 5
Natural Bridge Caverns, New Braunfels
Fun for the whole family awaits to the 3rd annual Stair Climb and Maze Challenge. Head to this favorite New Braunfels hotspot, where you’ll start at the bottom of the 160-foot cave, climb up 180 steps, and then run a mile through beautiful Hill Country scenery before you enter the maze.

Landa Park Golf Course
The second annual event features a two-person scramble on 18 holes of tournament golf at the Landa Park Golf Course.

Chosen Half Marathon
Saturday, Nov. 16
Rockin R, New Braunfels
Get ready to run 13.1 miles along the Guadalupe River and see why this half marathon is called the “prettiest race in Texas.” The 7th annual race also raises money for orphaned children throughout the world.

14th Annual Thankful Turkey 5K
Saturday, Nov. 19
First Baptist Church, San Marcos
This 5K Run & Walk is made all the more enjoyable thanks to the scenic Hill Country views and charitable giving, with proceeds benefitting non-profit programs in San Marcos.

Sights and Sounds of Christmas 5K and 1K Jingle Bell Run
Saturday, Dec. 3
San Marcos Park Plaza
Get your Santa costume or your ugly Christmas sweater and run through San Marcos’ downtown and historic district.


Arbor Day Celebration
Saturday, Oct. 22
Landa Park
This free family event is a great way to get the kids involved in nature. The Arbor Day Celebration will feature a tree planting, special kids’ activities, and a free tree giveaway.

8th Annual Downtown New Braunfels’ Halloween Spooktacular
Thursday, Oct. 27
Downtown New Braunfels
Go trick-or-treating early at this annual event, which provides a safe environment for candy collecting. Family activities and a Best Costume contest will make the experience extra special.

Veteran's Day Parade
Saturday, Nov. 5
San Marcos, Downtown Square
This annual parade honors those who have served our country. The event will also feature free breakfast, live performances, and a kids’ bike brigade.

Fall Funfest
Saturday, Nov. 5
Fischer Park Hilltop Pavilion and Plaza
Get ready for an entire day of family fun, with a talent show, decorated pumpkin contest, children’s book signing, and the much-awaited Fall Funfest scarecrow contest.


Santa’s Ranch
Sunday, Nov. 6–Monday, Jan. 2
New Braunfels
A Texas tradition for 15 years, Santa’s Ranch is the Hill Country’s premier holiday lights destination, with a full mile of holiday sights including one million lights, 100 displays, and animations. You won’t want to miss their homemade hot cocoa and kettle corn.

It’ll be family Christmas fun aplenty at Canyon Lake, with face painting, a bakery, pictures with Santa, a post office, hayrides and caroling, a live Nativity, a Toyland, and a petting barn.

New Braunfels’ Wurstfest Grounds
This 10-day celebration of German food, music and fun brings in revelers from all over to take part in the festive Hill Country tradition. Expect to enjoy live music, dancing, carnival rides and games, and an abundance of German beer and food.

Gruene Christmas Market Days

Nearly 100 vendors featuring one-of-a-kind crafts, Christmas gifts, and Texas foods give you a great opportunity for holiday shopping.
