Looking for a fun place to spend the day in the Hill Country with family? Look no further than Gruene, the charming and historic town that’s part of the city of New Braunfels but has a unique charm all its own.

Spending the perfect day in Gruene means different things to different people, but there are several can’t-miss spots, including many unique of the city’s unique landmarks that date back to the 1840s.

Gruene Hall

The oldest continually run dance hall in Texas, Gruene Hall remains one of the favorite Hill Country hotspots for great live music and dancing.

The Gristmill

One of the favorite restaurants in the Hill Country is also one of America's Most Popular Family-Friendly Restaurants, as voted by Urbanspoon. The Gristmill is right next door the Gruene Hall and overlooks the Guadalupe River. Here, you can enjoy a hamburger or some chicken fried steak with a great view, a strong drink, and some live music. Not to mention a history lesson, since The Gristmill used to be cotton gin that processed crops raised by farmers in the area.

Gruene Mansion Inn

It used to be the home of one of Gruene’s founders, H.D. Gruene, and today it’s a charming Victorian Bed and Breakfast, with 30 rooms that ooze charm.

Gruene General Store

You can’t spend any time in Gruene without indulging in a piece of homemade fudge and leaving with bags full of homemade salsas and preserves and honey butter at Gruene General Store. So beloved is this quaint spot that it was named one of the 40 best places to visit in Texas.

Gruene Market Days

During the third weekend of the month, Gruene comes alive with artists, artisans, and excited visitors. Gruene Market Days has been held for more than 30 years, with handmade items and Texas food and gifts.

Winery on the Gruene

Make your own wine and then sit back and enjoy it at Winery on the Gruene.

The Grapevine

Daily complimentary wine tastings, live music in the garden most of the year, and Happy Hour on Fridays makes The Grapevine a favorite place to visit in Gruene.
