New Braunfels is known for being the choice of families moving to the Hill Country, and the renowned local schools continue to reinforce that fact. The Comal Independent School District (CISD), which serves schoolchildren at new Hill Country masterplanned community The Crossings, just received another impressive honor when it was announced that it was named to the prestigious Five Star list of the Texas Smart Schools program. CISD was the only public school district in the San Antonio metro area to achieve this important designation.
“The latest ratings of the state's more than 1,040 Independent School Districts and Charter School Districts” put CISD in a small but prestigious group of just 44 total districts that earned that ranking. "You have to be in the top 20% for academic progress and in the bottom 20% for spending," said Texas State Comptroller Susan Combs to News Radio 1200 WOAI; Combs leads the Texas Smart Schools initiative.
According to the ratings, Comal ISD is in the 83rd percentile for student performance, and has spent $6,975 per student.
This prestigious accomplishment is the latest in a series of achievements for the school district that is one of many reasons families are moving to New Braunfels. In fact, buying a home in the Hill Country is such a popular choice today that New Braunfels was just named the second-fastest growing city in the nation, jumping six spots from last year. The population in New Braunfels has almost doubled since 2000.
With so much to do and see, from great shopping and restaurants, to great recreational opportunities including tubing the Comal, playing at Schlitterbahn, and relaxing at one of the area’s parks, it’s no wonder media outlet Thrillist, named New Braunfels the San Antonio metro area’s best suburb as part of their list of “The Coolest Suburb in America’s 36 Biggest Metro Area.”
A vast job market
One of the great advantages of living in New Braunfels is the short commute to Austin and San Antonio, with job markets that are among the best in the country. New Braunfels’ job market is also exceptionally strong, and growing all the time. The latest developments include Amazon’s new 855,000-square-foot facility in San Marcos that’s currently under construction, which will bring 1,000 new jobs to the area, along with new jobs in New Braunfels courtesy of the new HEB Plus that’s almost finished being built on the Northeast side, and Epic Piping, which is adding hundreds of jobs to its current area facility.
